چکیده
Abstract We analyzed two morpho-species, Astyanax aeneus and caballeroi , coexisting in Lake Catemaco, with ecological differences previously associated different trophic niches. While A. is a widely distributed species, endemic to Catemaco. Due the contrasting morphology between these sympatric they were originally assigned genera, but little known about their genetic differentiation. hypothesized that which present differentiation niches, co-occur concomitance assortative mating form distinct clusters. tested this prediction by typing set of 12 microsatellites 348 individuals comparing structure patterns an allopatric population (i.e., Maquinas population). Genetic analysis, assignment analyses, estimation gene flow morpho-species carried out. Contrary expectations, there lack morpho-species. However, was Catemaco Río populations . In addition, we found asymmetric pattern, larger migration rate from than other direction. Finally, showed lower levels diversity those reported for both lacustrine system. Consequently, our results support notion are either early phase speciation or represent single polymorphic species. This model provides relevant information understanding presence polymorphisms under potential impact on process.

Four populations of Astyanax hastatus Myers 1928 from the Guapimirim River basin (Rio de Janeiro State) were analyzed and three distinct cytotypes identified. These cytotypes presented 2n = 50 chromosomes, with 4M+8SM+10ST+28A (Cytotype A), 8M+10SM+14ST+18A (Cytotype B), 6M+8SM+4ST+32A (Cytotype C) and scanty heterochromatin, mainly located throughout pericentromeric regions of several chromoso...

A study of genetic diversity at microsatellite loci and the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome b gene was carried out to assess genetic relationships among four Mexican cave (Pachon, Sabinos, Tinaja, Chica) and four surface populations of Astyanax fasciatus (Characidae) from northeast Mexico and the Yucatan. With the exception of Chica, the cave populations were all characterized by extremely...
متن کاملCytogenetic divergence in two sympatric fish species of the genus Astyanax Baird and Girard, 1854 (Characiformes, Characidae) from northeastern Brazil
The fish genus Astyanax is widespread throughout the Neotropical region and is one of the most species-rich genera of the Characiformes. Cytogenetic studies of Astyanax have revealed marked intra- and interspecific diversity, with the identification of various species complexes. In this report, we describe the karyotypic structure of two sympatric species of Astyanax (Astyanax sp. and Astyanax ...

Ninety individuals of the characid fish Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier, 1819) were collected at Água da Madalena stream (Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil) and analyzed for diploid chromosome number 2n and karyotype composition as well as for the chromosomal location of the 5S and 18S ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Whereas no chromosome differences were associated with sex, three different karyomorphs with diploi...

Two new species of Astyanax are described from eastern Brazil: A. microschemos from the córrego Palmital, rio Itapemirim drainage, Espírito Santo, and A. pelecus from the rio Pardo drainage, Bahia. Astyanax microschemos differs from its congeners by its shallower body depth, 26.9-29.7% of standard length, the presence of one vertically elongate humeral spot that extend above and below the later...
